Setting up a utility table for the computer

If you don't like a lot of fuss and bother when it comes to your home office, you might want to invest in a good computer table rather than a more complicated desk with a hutch and lots of drawers. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, you may need to read some of the following suggestions on setting up a computer table to your best advantage.

Picking the Right Table

If you are looking for a computer table rather than a more traditionally-styled desk, you have to consider a few things. First of all, make sure that the table will fit into your home office space. Secondly, get a desk that is big enough for your needs, such as all your computer accessories and any extra workspace you may need. Lastly, be certain that the computer table you choose does have enough storage space even though you have opted out of all the extra storage a hutch can bring; find a desk with at least one or two drawers, and you can always add an extra bookshelf or file cabinet when you need it. We offer some excellent computer table style desks, including the Compact Home Office Desk and the Pronto Home Office Workstation Package, which includes a table-style desk and a small cabinet with drawers.

Setting It Up

In order to keep the sleek look of a computer table, you'll want to be sure to set your table up correctly, which will include finding the right spots for all of your computer pieces and hiding the cords, which is more difficult to do with this type of workstation.

First, find a good spot for your tower, either on top of the desk or underneath it. Some people who prefer to have their monitor up higher may want to consider placing a horizontal computer case under the monitor, being sure not to block any vents or plug ins.

Secondly, plug in all your cords and find creative ways to hide them. This will be easiest if your computer table butts up against a wall, as you will be able to hook or tape the cords to the wall in such a way that they are covered by the desk itself. If you are using your computer table in the middle of the room, you may need to wrap the cords in a matching wrap and attach them to the edges of the desk.

Adding Some Flair

Now that your home office is centered on your well-chosen and set-up computer table, it's time to add personalized accessories. If you need organizational help, consider using one of our desk sets for most efficient use of space. Add in a calendar, a whiteboard or cork board, and a few personal effects, such as framed pictures and small live plants.

Now, you should have a home office space that is both functional and personal. Your computer table has plenty of space for work, and it looks sleek and beautiful, too.

We have computer tables that will make the statement you want.  Browse through our inventory and find the computer table right for you.
